Don,

We haven’t done any Spacepak installations in Florida but you can contact Alan Rieff. He is the factory rep for Florida and he will be happy to answer questions you may have about Florida installations.

Thanks

Lonnie,

Without knowing who you're talking about I'm not really sure how you came to that conclusion. There are many aspects of a Spacepak installation that require an ability to follow written instructions. When it comes to the refrigeration circuit, a licensed contractor is required but many other aspects can be handled by a handy person. We provide the duct layout and design so the homeowner needs to follow that plan. Many AC contractors will have you believe that none of the installation can be completed by anybody but them, but this simply is not true. Be prepared to dig in and do some work but it is a great way for a handy homeowner to save money. Stay positive!!

Saul,

Many of our customers will do as much of the installation as they are comfortable with and let a contractor complete the start up. We offer a complete duct layout service for free with an order. There are a couple of proprietary tools required to install the ducting and those are included. Once the ductwork is properly laid out, the installation is no more difficult than standard ductboard and flex. We do offer support for installation questions as well. Just be sure to have the refrigeration connections and system start up and inspection completed by a local contractor to validate the manufacturers' warranty. You can obtain Spacepak air conditioning system and materials pricing here:
http://www.acdirect.com/spacepak_mini_duct_heat_pump_hot_water_air_conditioner_.php

Good luck and let me know if you have other questions. We're standing by to assist.

I would like to install the unit myself.

Due to the economy being so bad. I can't afford to hire a contractor.

I'm very handy, and looking at the specs on your product and with some research done on the side about a/c's. I feel I can handle the installation.

Would you guys be able to assist me in case if I get in to any issues while installing the unit?

Thanks.

Mike

The Spacepak systems as I understand them, do not install with return air duct in every room. This is a big reason why I want to install this system. Other "non-mini" systems do. Can you site any mini installs in Florida without all the returns.

Thanks Don

Don,

One more thing....you can contact your city or county mechanical inspector and ask for a copy of the HVAC codes that will pertain to your area. These will let you know in advance what rules you must comply with.

Don,

The Spacepak systems (as with all major brands of equipment) are approved by the various federal and industry agencies (Air Conditioning Refrigeration Institute, EPA and others) and don't require individual state-by-state certification. You will need to comply with all state and local codes concerning the installation just as you would with any traditional system. No special consideration is required when it comes to a mini duct system other than those considerations contained within the installation instructions that are important for design and function. Your local Florida inspector will approve the installation when properly installed according to the local and state code requirements. These requirements are the same for all systems regardless of brand or type.

Thanks and good luck!

We are building a new home in Northern Florida. I'm concerned about how this system will meet the Florida code. Can you direct me to where I can get some answers?
